Entrepreneurial Leadership

What is Entrepreneurial Leadership?  Many definitions exist.  For our purpose, entrepreneurial leadership is a special field of leadership that combines entrepreneurial vision, passion, drive and high level of integrity with high degrees of innovation, risk taking and proactiveness at breathtaking pace. Entrepreneurial leaders challenge the status quo.  They are aggressive catalysts for change who recognise opportunities where others see chaos, contradictions or confusion. They continually push the envelope of speed and boldness. 

Today, entrepreneurial leadership receives increasing recognition as uncertainty and speed of change accelerates and intimidates many leaders, and as “…massive institutional failure, collectively creating results that no one wants; notably the destruction of community, nature and life - our foundation essential for social, economic, ecological and spiritual well-being” (Scharmer, 2007), calls for a new leadership.

While academia debates whether entrepreneurial leadership is different from leadership alone and/or entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial leaders are rapidly becoming a revolutionary force for radical change across the world. Entrepreneurial leadership is becoming a global necessity

Akin to entrepreneurial leadership is social entrepreneurship, a young but fast growing field. This growth reflects the potential of social entrepreneurs to address the most pressing global social problems in a creative and resource effective way. According to David Bornstein, social entrepreneurs are to social change what business entrepreneurs are to the economy. Social entrepreneurs are called leaders of change for the masses.
